The JSTH history
The JSTH started as a forum on thrombosis and hemostasis organized by Professors Takeshi Abe, Hisao Morita, and Goro Kosaki in 1972, and this small get-together of coagulation enthusiasts developed into the first official meeting of the JSTH in 1978. The annual congresses of the JSTH boosted the interest and enthusiasm of scientists and clinicians engaged in this field in Japan, and initiated a wide range of activities both domestic and international. The ardent support of the JSTH members made it possible to host the XIIth Congress of the International Society on Thrombosis and Haemostasis in Tokyo, 1989, with Dr. Takeshi Abe as President. The JSTH now has the membership of more than 1200 doctors and scientists, and in collaboration with a number of societies ranging from basic sciences to laboratory sciences and clinical fields, it now serves as the core of translational science that facilitates well-being of people in the world.
